Frequently asked questions

How do I book a motorhome rental?

You can provisionally book your dates and vehicle by email or you can phone our office for further information, to check availability and to make a booking. To confirm a booking you will need to pay a non-refundable booking deposit of £250.00 or full payment if it’s a late booking to secure your chosen dates. The full balance will need to be paid no later than 6-8 weeks before collection. Once the deposit (or full payment) is made, we then begin arranging your hire package and insurance. Unfortunately we can't begin this process until a deposit has been received. As insurance security you will be asked to leave a refundable security deposit of £1000 to £1500 upon collection. This acts as an insurance excess during your hire, and will be refunded provided that the vehicle is returned clean and undamaged as described in our terms and conditions. In the event of an insurance claim the cost of the damage or claim will be deducted from your deposit.

Where can I view or collect the motor home?

Please call our office if you wish to view a vehicle as it might be out on hire. Viewings take place at our storage depot just outside Manchester. As we are a small company we don't yet have our own premises and so store our vehicles at a secure compound just outside Manchester, this means that there is not always someone from Blue Duck Campers there so please always contact us first, rather than popping along on the off chance we are there. EDIT - please note that due to COVID-19 we can no longer offer viewings at the current time as we would have to clean and sanitise the vehicle after each viewing which costs us time and money, sorry

Where can I park the motorhome or camp at night?

Please be considerate when parking the motorhome and remember that parking overnight at the side of the road is not permitted in England. Scotland however, allows wild-camping particularly in the Highlands and Islands.

It’s best to book campsites in advance, particularly in high season to avoid disappointment. We provide a Privilege Card for the Camping and Caravanning Club free with every hire, which gives you member rates at over 120 award winning UK and Northern Ireland campsites.

Where possible, hard standing pitches are the most desirable as they make parking easy. Check the facilities available with the campsite, and whether there is mains power. Also remember to ask what facilities are close to your pitch, such as a children’s play area.

Can I take the Motorhome abroad?

Due to the COVID-19 issue, we are currently unable to offer European hires. Sorry

Where can I leave my car whilst I'm away?

We offer secure parking at our storage depot which boasts 150 monitored CCTV cameras, high security fencing and immediate police response.

What if I accidentally damage the motorhome?

Keep calm – accidents happen, call our office and advise what damage has occurred we might be able to rectify it over the phone or if out of hours, text for minor damage or call our 24hr line where you will be given further instructions.

Do not accept any liability for any accident and take lots of pictures of the vehicles involved, people present and the general area. Once everyone and the vehicle is safe, remove the SD card from the dashcam as this will help you explain how the accident occurred and can prove the other drivers are at fault. Remember, failure to provide Blue Duck Campers with this SD card will render you totally liable for all costs associated with the accident or incident.

Once everyone is safe, please complete the accident form provided in the customer guide in the vehicle

Can I return the motorhome outside of normal opening hours?

Unfortunately this service is not currently available as there must be a Blue Duck Campers representative present at the hand over of the motorhome to process the check in.

Can you drink the water from the on board tank?

We would recommend that you use the onboard tank for washing, showering and the toilet flush rather than for drinking. We do sterilise the tank at regular intervals and it is generally filled on sites where drinking water is provided so should be fine but as we we cannot guarantee where the previous customer filled up we'd recommed you use the large fridge to carry bottled drinking water

Is insurance included in the hire fee?

We include conprehensive UK insurance for one driver with every hire. Additional drivers can be included for a small additional fee. We also strongly recommend that customers have their own travel insurance in case of personal injury, ill health or loss of personal possessions during a hire. EU hires have a small additional fee for the European road use insurance cover

How do I book a discounted campsite?

Unfortunately you can't book online using our privilege membership as we don't have a membership number to get the discount automatically applied so you'll need to phone the campsute directly and tell them you are a travelling in a privilege scheme vehicle, they'll then discount your booking on arrival when they see the Blue Duck. Alternatively, you can call the club office direct and book via them - 024 7647 5426

Can I use the motorhome at a festival or sporting event?

Yes you can but we limit the risk of damage by stipulating a maximum of 4 adults for any festival or event use. We also have an increased security bond due to the increased risk of damage at certain events, this will be calculated on an event by event basis but is generally £1500 (which you get back in full anyway so long as the vehicle is returned clean and undamaged)
